I just thought I would put this out there, as its seldom I'm blown away by aftermarket products.
But the Wevo shifter with the PSJ, has easily been the most night and day improvement Ive done to my '88. I've seen a lot of writes ups and reviews of their 915 products, but I wasn't really sure how much of an improvement I was likely to see, considering the G50 shifter was no slouch. Prior to the install, the stock set up felt a little soft and the distance and effort of the throw, felt like shifting a diesel truck, rather than a sports car. After installing the Wevo shifter first, I certainly saw a modest improvement in the throw, but the shifts still felt "soft". That is until installed the PSJ (Precision shift joint). The PSJ replaces the stock rubber shift coupler that connects the rod to the trans at the access opening at the back of the tunnel. This was BY FAR the heavy hitter in this duo. It completely transformed the way the car shifts, making transitions between gears far more precise and effortless. For those of you with G50s, I would not hesitate to buy, at the very least, their PSJ. Their products are incredibly high quality and Tracy's follow up was impeccable. Just my 2 pennies. Alex

How much additional noise did the PSJ add to the cabin? I've been eyeing this as another upgrade myself.

I don't notice any difference in the noise factor. Apart from a nice "click" when shifting

Alex,
Could you comment on ease of installation? Pretty straightforward? Thanks.

All that is required is removing the existing coupler at the rod-end (located at the rear tunnel access in the cabin and the other end is removed where the coupler meets the transmission. It is a direct swap out. Took me about 5 minutes after the car was jacked up. The hardest part is getting the rubber boot back over the hole.

I replaced my 915 stock coupler with a WEVO PSJ and all I have noticed are nice crisp shifts. Very pleased. Of course I also changed out my shift bushings and cup.

I used to have a 300ZX years ago. Loved that car. Then the fuel injectors caught on fire.

I also just had a PSJ and fresh bushings and cup put in my 915 - no noticeable increase in sound - but certainly much better shifting - not perfect, but money well spent.

Bringing this thread back. Around installation of the PSJ, do you need to do any calibration after installation or pretty much take old one out, put PSJ in? Couldn't find any detailed instruction sent or video and wanted to know if this is something I would be able to do or have someone do it. I did find some info but it is always around 915 coupler and there was some calibration needed there.
Also, if you have PSJ, would you also recommend switching to their shifter? My 88 911 already comes with a short shifter from factory. Thanks! |

Marc,
G50 stuck in 2nd Here's a recent thread that provided some good information on adjusting the G50 shifter. So I would suggest using that info to adjust your shifter to the correct position after you replace the shift coupler with the PSJ. That said, the G50 shifter is much more self-aligning than the 915. The 915 shifter tube has a splined end at the coupler connection. So there's a lot more fine tuning required there with the 915 than the G50. The G50 coupler just a couple of bolts at the shifter tube and really no adjustment to it back there. Edit: and your factory short shifter (the M243 option shifter used in the M637 club sport model) is just a slightly shortened lever. I compared a M637 shifter with a regular shifter and the only difference is a 3/4" shorter lever up at the top where the knob mounts. Disappointing to say the least. Whereas the WEVO shifter is actually a revised pivot that truly does shorten the travel of the shifter.

@Sabai: this are the factory ones but seems like they are in good shape
@KTL: awesome info and good to know the 5mm trick for adjusting the shifter. But what about any adjustments on PSJ? Is it just bolt to Selector Rod and to wherever it goes inside the transmission case and that's it? |
