Reduced Gas Milage
This time of the year it is quite cold here in Iowa...like 5 to 10 degrees F. I have an 82 SC and have noticed that with the cold weather my gas milage has dropped significantly. Is there a connection between the cold weather and my gas milage or might I have someother problems.

Oil is certainly harder to pump at low temps. . . what weight oil are you using?
Also, fuels get more alcohol added in the winter. (for emissions) Alcohol fuels have less chemical energy per/gallon. Either, or both maybe why your getting worse milage. . . or something else?

Not to worry. It is quite normal for any car to get worse gas mileage in the winter. With the engine being cold more and more often the engine runs ricer therefore burning more fuel to heat up. Here in the Northeast all my vehicles on the average loose about 2-5 mpg during the winter months.

Mymileage increased about 4mpg over the last week or so, and I believe they recently changed to summer gas formulation. Or maybe I'm just not driving at 5K rpm all the time

I noticed that gas mileage can also be brand sensitive. Whenever I use ARCO my mileage slips consistently. Seems I get the best out of Union 76 without MTBE.
