Rear seat delete - storage
I have always wanted storage in my back seat instead of those impossibly small seats. I could never afford one of the factory rear seat delete and no one was making them so I'm making my own.
I had these cut on a CNC router and I'm very happy so far ![]() |

I made my own as well and instead of the 2 openings I put 2 6x9 speakers in them and a flat spot on top for whatever.

I’d imagine there would be lots of folks interested in these.

I am pretty sure you would have no problem moving sets of those if you so decided.

Rear seat delete
I made this for my coupe but they ought to fit in a targa or cab. Once I'm happy with mine I would be interested in making these available

The problem I ran into with a aftermarket seat delete was the lack of room for the upholstery to go around the doors. Trying to trim the wood, after it was already cut, made for some uneven edges. You may want to cut the doors a bit smaller if you intend to cover them and the box.

I made my own some time ago and covered it with the same carpet I used for the floor. I also carpeted the rear seat buckets. I installed some round speakers "outboard" of the seat buckets on the front face.
I initially planned to install doors, but didn't. The seat buckets with the cutouts in front make nice "cubby holes" - just stuff things (like jackets) right in there. Not really visible from outside the car. I've had no issue with things getting out. |

How are these attached? I would imagine the rear seat pivots (for the folding top half) would provide a solid mounting point if they’re accessible once the assembly is in position.

David,
I'd pay for a decent paper template folded in an envelope. This would be super easy to cut with the materials of my choice. I don't have the patience to pull my seats and fold my six foot plus frame into the back seat area to cut and measure and experiment. I don't need a kit so much as the plans for one. I wish someone would do this, eliminates the shipping etc.

Thanks Rich,
That's pretty cool, I guess I'm gonna have to climb back there and make a template....

I converted Rich's 2d drawings and drew them up in Fusion 360. Then I went to 100k garages to find someone with a CNC router to cut them out

Coolest rear seat delete I have ever seen, or could even imagine. You MUST share some details...did you do it? What materials used? How were the curved parts formed? Unreal, really!!

They then spoke to a boatbuilder called Thomas and we had a lot of discussion about making it fit snugly and look like it was supposed to be there. We then went through a process of trial and error and eventually Thomas made a special marine ply that would have the rigidity to curv properly and not warp or try and spring back to the original shape. Once fitted, Greg then set to work on the leatherwork, and we had various failures of the latch and gas pistons. Finally, we used running board rails for the luggage rack and it is incredibly strong. Here is a video of it operating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTPQznXg9XY |

"Scoundrel", not Outlaw... We were keen that the product is not lost, so we have a mould ready to go to make further examples, but the process is not quick or very cheap. If you want one, I can make it happen, but it takes some time just to curve the ply to the right angle. Any takers? |
