Should parking brake handle be curved?

1978 911SC

I'm pulling out the parking brake handle assy to re-paint and noticed the handle bends towards the driver. Is this intentional to clear the heat controls or damaged?

I don't want to straighten it if it's supposed to be bent...

Just asked a colleague and the handle is supposed to be completely straight.

Those two red plastic finger grabbers on the heater controls are available fairly inexpensively. They pull off/push on as I recall. Old ones may break coming off.

It's a while you're there kind of thing.

maybe an rallye car in another life? you know how rallye drivers love some rear hand braking to help get the arse around in tight corners.

Thank you all. I'll gently try to straighten it. New heat control knobs added to my "project list"

if you are not already aware do not introduce any heat to straighten it while in the car as the fuel lines are just a few inches away from the lever in the tunnel. if you were aware im sorry to insult your intelligence,,, but I had to learn the hard way 15 or so years or so ago applying heat to the tunnel... thankfully my hair grows quickly and my beard was much more managed at the time

Sure looks like if you straighten it up, it’s going to bang against the inner heat control lever.

Mine curves a little to the right, most do one way or another so I hear. But my parking brake is straight.

My guess is that there was a little lovin going on in the passenger seat... one foot on the brake handle. Bent the whole unit including the base.

Juanbenae, when it comes to fire I'll gladly take advice!

I pulled the entire assembly apart, chucked it in a vise by the pivot pin and gave it a gentle nudge. Straightened right out.

(You guys are funny...)
