AASE Brembo Brake Upgrade kits

Just wondering if any one has used the Brembo brake upgrade kits, from aasesales , on a 911SC (1980 to be precise). I fell deep into the internet last night and got lost in the idea of a brake upgrade.

So I wanted to see if anyone out there has used these kits and if they could give any insight on if they really are just mountable, without any need to upgrade the master cylinder.

Thanks in advance!

sorry can't help,no idea on AASE kits MC requirement.
Just a data Data Point : i have the Rebel GT big red kit and it works very well on and off track, with the stock 86 Carrera MC. No rotor heating issues ,fade,etc......My only issue with the kit is the lack of replacement rotor sources, single or 2 pc ,28mm wide rotors.
You may want to check this out along with the MC question during your search for brake upgrade options.

Not sure about the diameter (one spec says 11.730"), but '86 944 Turbo rotors (front) are 28mm wide and often used for 911 brake upgrades. Should be available in the aftermarket.

993 front rotors are also 28mm.

Hard to be sure exactly what you're looking at, but I suspect the kit that looks like Boxster S/996 monoblocs - which fits with 28mm rotors, as that's what they're designed to use.

If you go the Instant-G route, you use stock 996 rotors, which can be found very inexpensively. I got a set of 4 Balo (OEM for Cayenne rotors, as well as MB and BMW) 996 rotors drop-shipped for something laughable.

Both types of Boxster calipers have exactly the same piston sizes (but designed for different rotors). In this thread Boxster Brake Caliper Upgrade to 1989 911: Now the pedal is spongy, Bill V says
Quote:
If you just did the fronts then the stock 20.64mm m/c is on the small side of ok, you will have a little more pedal travel than stock w/ this setup
I was not thrilled with my stock M/C with 3.2 calipers; lots of travel, soft-ish pedal. Not confidence inspiring. The thermal issues are well known.

A 930 M/C with Boxster S/996 calipers f/r makes for a pedal that is both high/hard; great feel, easy to modulate. Pedal effort is higher. Pads/rotors last forever, and you typically only bleed to change the fluid. But you likely need 17" wheels to clear at the front, and will want to address the bias issue.

My $0.02? For an SC, fit 3.2 calipers/rotors up front and call it good.

That right? The "Boxster upgrade" most often mentioned here use 24mm rotors. The S/996 monoblocs are a different breed. Thanks.

There are two kits on the AASE website:

993 front rotors ar 304x32, 993RS/tt are 322x32, Boxster are 298x24, Boxster S/996 are 318x28

the Typical Boxster brake change on a 911 uses Carrera 3.2 rotors f/r

when using the 996 rotors I believe that modified hubs are needed, never done it that way so not sure

There are 2 Brembo kits that have been available recently
kit 1 uses 323x28 & 309x28 rotors, the fronts used to be 313 x28 but have been changed for a year or more
kit 2 uses 355x32 & 313x28 rotors, though there is also a 345x28 option as well

unfortunately Brembo only publishes the piston sizes for their racing calipers, but not the street setups, so the only way to evaluate compatibility w/ stock m/c is to try it.

Thinking about level 1 for the front. Maybe level 2.

My 996TT brakes were installed using the InstantG adapters and modified hubs, plus required a 930 MC. Were I to do it over again I'd never use these brakes. Very heavy, significant front bias, and when all in with calipers, rotors, adapter, hubs it's a $2,000 expense. Fortunately the calipers and rotors were given to me so my investment was half that.... until the Fabcar dual master cylinder setup with balance bar in order to get the bias moved somewhat rearward. But the braking is far more than I need even with then new 3.6 and suspension mods, I'll never fade them, ever.

I have a set of brakes that I had listed a while ago that are a good upgrade. ...I'm thinking I may actually keep them but not sure. I'll will decide after this weekend at the track with the car that I'm considering installing them on.

You can P.M. me if it is something you might be interested in or search my name and posts and you'll find the original for sale post.

I have the Level 2 on the front of my '76. Brake pedal feel is the same as stock (unboosted 19mm master cylinder), haven't had a chance to push them hard just yet to see how they hold up to extreme use. The sport pads that come with the Level 2 kit require a bit of temp in them to get them to bite nicely but I'm happy with them. They even fit under my 15x6 cookie cutter wheels without any spacers.
