Best dailey driver cam for '87 Carrera, Web 20/21 or 964?

I'm probably going do a valve guide replacement soon on my '87. While at it, what cam would be an improvement and still pass Calif. smog? I have a Dansk sport muffler and Autothority chip #911.300 and use the P-car for occassional dailey commute. I have a hunch the 964 cam is slightley milder and should pass smog, no problem. Is the Web cam 20/21 a more potent performer and does it pass smog? Could someone explain the differences between the two?

Hard to beat the stock cam IMHO. What kind of improvements are you looking for specifically?

Regs,

I just put a recently rebuilt 3.2 in my '87 Carrera. It has Webcam 20/21 cams, Autothority chip and really pulls a lot stronger after 4000 rpms. My gas mileage has plumetted and I'm taking her in tonight to have the mixture checked. I'll report back.

I'm wild about my 20/21 cams, but my car is not the same as yours. Mine is a SUPER Carrera. (wink) And I don't have smog testing to worry about. If I did, and if the cams would not pass, I would change cams twice a year. I like them that much.

Yeah, I've noticed that the Autothority Chip does reduce gas mileage. Is the additional fuel consumption really necessary for the small increase in power? I wonder if that is typical for other power chips?

I had 964 cams, Euro spec cylinders/pistons and a custom chip installed in my '87 Carrera about 3 months ago when the car had a top end job (at 95,000 miles). I use it as a daily driver and notice a great improvement in acceleration throughout the range. Gas mileage is about 14 to the gallon in the city. Very pleased with the results.
