Wink Smoked a Carrera in my HEMI today

Just kidding...but I did admire how well my new Dodge Ram w/HEMI kept up with the 87-89 Carrera that was in front of me today! I flashed him and he punched it, as did I, and I was on his tail until about 70 mph. At the end of the road, I chatted for a moment with him to let him know i wasn't just a redneck messing with the rich Porsche guy, but in fact, I had recently sold my 85 Carrera and was just seeing how well my new truck would pull. I knew my truck felt strong, really strong for a truck, but I had to try it out now that it's broken in. I would recommend this vehicle for anyone who needs a 4-door truck and craves performance at the same time. It really makes the wait for another Porsche more bearable !

How did you get a hemi in a 1/2 ton? I have a 02 Ram 1500 with the biggest V8 I could get and it is a dog. I thought they were waiting till 04 to put that motor in the 1500?

Funny, I was talking to a young lady who's fiance has a Ford Lightning. That puppy does 13s in the 1/4 mile. Have the pics of the board to prove it. That out does my '85 Carrera.

The lightning does have something like 380 Horespower and since its not an SUV I dont think it weighs that much really.

I have heard the 04 or 05 Lightning is suppossed to be closer to 500 Horsepower...jeez, in a truck? I wonder how many get wrapped around trees?

The "late" 03's can be had with the 5.7 HEMI, made after Jan.03. I agree about the 5.9 360 V8-it is a dog due to the transmission gearing NOT THE ENGINE. The 4.7 V8 performs just as well, if not better, but towing is sacrificed.

I've driven the Lighting...you don't want to mess with that truck, it's very fast and doesn't seem to run out of steam! I needed a 4-door (I have 3 kids) so the "sport" trucks were out.

Dodge will be offering a "sport" version of the HEMI 4-door that should take care of the Lightning in 2004 or 2005. I want another Porsche, so I'll be restraining myself from this version. BTW: a 2003 2WD 1500 w/HEMI, anti-locks, LSD, 17s, and leather is only $25k! As I said, I would recommend this truck to anyone who needs a vehicle of this type!

345 cu.in.
345 hp
375 foot pounds of torque

the sport will have a supercharger
450 hp est.
490 torque

Am I the only one here who read the C&D article on the "Sports wagon" Dodge is about to come out with? A 2wd station wagon...up front, a supercharged 5.7 hemi. Estimated to be 425 horsepower... Hooboy! With these, "The little old lady from Pasadena" is going to make a comeback!

No wheels on the roof. You might need them going into a 50mph corner at 100mph.

I sold my Dodge 2500 POS for a reason....and will never buy another Chrysler vehicle.

Know how they pronounce DaimlerChrysler in German? The "Chrysler" is silent.

A few years ago I had a GMC Syclone. One year only, very limited production (2998 of them). Turbo, all-wheel drive based on the S-15 pick-up. Zero to Sixty in 4.3 sec (stock), 4.6 seconds in the wet. 12.90's in the quarter mile. A very impressive truck and somewhat of a sleeper. Didn't corner all that bad, all things considered.

They have 15psi boost from the factory. Lots of cooked engines in the first few years. I really liked that 'truck'.

Easy guys! I am an HVAC contractor- I need a truck like this to work out of and Dodge is the corporate fleet account. The Dodge line offers the "best value" under most circumstances, especially trucks: they are $5k-$10k less than competing brands apples-to-apples. We don't keep them longer than 4 years/60,000 because a day in the shop equals repair plus lost work, which can cost a couple grand! The point wasn't to pump Dodge , but rather to express my opinion/excitement about the performance of the new HEMI-engined 1500 pickup I just got. I wouldn't dare attempt speeding through the curves in a vehicle like this, that's just plain reckless! But gunning it off the line is therepeutic(sp) when you are "Porscheless" and want a little adreneline rush. Relax- I won't run you over.........although I probably could

There's a reason Chrysler vehicles have some of the poorest resale value in the used car market (and the reason is not volume).

I'm all for going fast. It's a hoot. Kinda cracks me up how many high HP trucks there are nowadays. Superchargers, big C.I. engines, monster turbodiesels....... That's great if they're used for harcore work. Sad truth is a good bunch of them are behemoth boulevard cruisers that are a waste of gas, tires, brakes, and all sorts of other stuff.

Oh well. To each his own!
