the number of inventory turns will do nothing to aging inventory if you don’t have FIFO or batch management...

Absolutely right. We did and the vast majority of our large customers like Advance Auto Parts, Pep Boys, Amazon, Icahn's North American DC's all did.

Some newer filters, like the one in my ZF 8 speed trans in my hemi Grand Cherokee are now plastic, many of the ZF's in BMWs and Porsches are also plastic now too.
That looks like it will rust on the insides even after being installed unless hermetically sealed.

You're overthinking this (or maybe I'm not understanding). Are you planning con rod replacement too if the car sits for a few weeks?

That part looks like it is susceptible to rust (cheap metal?) when exposed to air for any significantly long period. Is it coated or soaked with clean oil at all times after installation and left sitting in a seldom driven car ? If not, rust would start forming and that's not good.

The pic is a filter for an automatic transmission. It's made of steel. Steel, even high alloy, uber expensive, German Teutonic Porsche steel, will corrode when exposed to the atmosphere. Everything inside a working A/T is bathed in ATF unlike a shelf in a damp warehouse.

Ed, thanks for posting the above story and pics. You never know what's going to come out in a thread - it was interesting reading seeing how the business works.

I learned something too....hadn't thought about the rust issue probably due to my location in Az...things don't normally rust even sitting in my garage.

Got it, immersed in ATF in the sump of the transmission.
