Removal of Bumperettes,

I ve removed the bumberettes from by rear bumper 77 Targa. Filled holes and prepping for pain..but one question remains...the rubber strips I wish to keep but the inside portion was anctually anchored by the bumperette. What have folks done to "flatten" that end of the strip to the bumper?

Glue?
Small screw with a cap (like cap on mirrors)
?

All idea welcome

I have the same issue the tips of the rubber stick up a little. Trying to anchor it from the back with a small screw is the best idea I’ve come up with so far(haven’t done anything yet). It’s one of those things you as the owner notice and are botherd by but everyone else is oblivious to.

I’m curious to see what everyone else has done.

I would not use glue. The end that curves around closest to the bellows has a hole through it, an M5 screw, and a washer and lock nut inside. The hole in the strip is covered by a plug. I'd do the exact same thing on the other end.

Make sure you use high-quality fasteners. I like stainless. On my car, somebody used poor quality fasteners for the rubber strip during a previous repair. The fasteners rusted, as did the steel inside the rubber strip, to the point where it pooched out and deformed the strip. Nasty.

I used an adhesive on mine which has worked really well for years. I recall it was Sikaflex but cannot remember which one.

I drilled and used a small stove bolt (smooth head).... painted it black. It disappeared from view.

I tapped the metal backer in the rubber strip and used a 5 mm screw from the backside of the bumper to pull it in. It worked out well.

ended up drilling small whole on edge, tapping through metal re-enforcement and bumper, screwed in and caped with small black cap same as use on top of mirrors to cover allen bolt. Everything re-installed yesterday...next project, finish the interior and add the duck tail.
