First startup 3.6 911 -71 RSR/RWB turning in to a build thread?

Hi all fellow pelicans

Just want to share a short clip of the first day running the engine. Unfortunately, when uploading to youtube, the quality went from 10 to 1

The upside is that you don't have to see all the cr_p stored in the garage...& the rest of the car still remains a mystery

The car is a 911T 1971 now with a 3.6 from 1991. The transplant & install is all done in house.
A huge thanks to forums like this for the information & expertise & to the local Porsche enthusiasts at home for all their guidance.

Thanks

Yes it feels pretty awesome to have reached such a milestone. The day of startup I was a bit nervous. We had no idea if the DME would work or if the harness was fully ok.

Having only wiring diagrams from the 964 engine & the 1971 body we made the Engine Chassis Conversion Harness ourselves. There were still some issues before the engine finally fired up...but well, here we are. Finally

More? Yeah, there is more but there is no build thread here on the forum. Didn't know if it would be of any interest.

The car came with a lot of mysterious goodie bags & crispy fresh clusters

The car had been involved in an insurance fraud case. The company suspected fraud due to a fire in the electrical system under the dash, hence the burned cables & clusters....& steering wheel....& indicator stalks & brake lever...ignition switch and so on...
The owner at that time tried to sell the car not long before the incident, but with no luck.
The car was finally sold & after a few years of changing owner it ended up in a friends garage. They wanted to restore it but didn't have the time.

So, my partner/fiancee bought it, after me inspiring (or maybe brain washing) her for a few weeks....playing clips on youtube of loud RSR/wide body Porsches, leaving my computer on with pictures of wide ass Porsches
May I add that she was NOT a fan of Porsches. They look like frogs & she said she would never own one....

There you are Thank you & a special thanks to Magnus for all the help & info he has helped us with

It has taken a while longer than planned & i have not visited the Porsche guys as frequently as I would like to. Honestly speaking I hardly spent any time in my own garage the past year. Having two small children is reason enough, i think.

Håkan was kind enough to lend us a set of ignition cables since only 4 or 5 of our gave any spark.

Now the engine will be lowered & cables will be tucked away, rear engine mount/crash cage will be sand blasted & the oil lines put back in place after some extra welding. Besides that....we have the rest of the car to finish

painted

Always glad to help if i can. Would be nice to see you if you are home around christmas?
I had a hell of a time starting my 3.6, all 6 injectors was stuck close. But I was always planing on getting newer bigger injectors anyway.

Please share the specifics related to the flywheel and clutch, this is a critical aspect of the conversion. Congrats on the Metzger upgrade

For a 915?
You get a conversion flywheel from patricmotorsport (maybe orher sources) and use 915 clutch parts.

Good point on the trans. I can't imagine a 3,6 behind a 901.

I too would like to see all the details of the swap. Sounds like a lot or work. Good luck, and I can't wait to see it finished.

Didn't you already change injectors? I think you have mentioned something about that, but don't quite remember.
We installed SAAB injectors. 2 of our failed when i tried them out before install.
The 964 injectors are at 90% duty cycle @ 250hp according to several calculations. BOSCH states 201cc/min @3bar & the 964 is set to 3,8bar.
The injectors should, in theory, hit max @ 275hk / 3,8bar.
I know several people run higher power with 964 injectors but that's nothing i would like to experiment with however.

The SAAB injectors hit 81% duty cycle @ 275hk / 3,8bar
BOSCH states 248cc/min @ 3bar

I'll be home for 3 weeks from Thursday next week.

Thanks.
Magnus already mentioned the PMS flywheel & 915 clutch parts. That's basically it, really.
Some pictures below.

I feel this start-up teaser turning in to a build- & how to- thread. Would people really be interested?

A lot of work converting to a 3.6 yes, but now afterwords no. Have in mind I have NEVER worked on a Porsche up until this one.

The paper bags we had, with all the goodies, were full of parts & some didn't even belong to a Porsche.
So we headed of to Magnus & the other guys for a coffee & little game of...what's hiding in your mysterious bag

When we told the gang about our lack of experience they were all glad to help out. When i pointed at a picture on the wall saying, that is what we are going to build, they got mysteriously quiet.

The picture represented a 1974 RSR. I wished back then i could read minds

We had a 2.2 original 1971 engine on an engine stand & no clue weather it was a runner or not. Rebuild is a must but can we give it some steroids & make it match a wide body Porsche....no.
SO we sold the 2.2 engine & started looking for a better one. After a lot of research we went for a 3.6 but prices in Europe were insane. So we imported an engine from....Vancouver.
Yes, Vancouver, Canada.

The engine was not near of what the seller/company had promised. A rebuild was inevitable. At the same time we "improved" it on some points.

Below the 2.2 engine, 3.6 flywheel/clutch...& some wiring.
