interior door handle - circlip removal

Anybody have any tricks to getting this ring off the pin that hold the door handle. As you can see I've been hacking at it. Went to the hardware store and they couldn't really help but did have new clips if i get these off. If I get them off, any tips to getting new ones on.

a BFS (Big Fudging Screw Driver ), just push firmly it will spring/fly off, keep and eye on it or go to HB and get the proper Circlip remover on the cheap.

HB? do you mean HF(harbor freight)? is a tool like that made that can remove a circlip without the little holes. I've seen those type of pliers

Yes, Harbor Freight, or you need a tool to spread the circlip so it can be pushed out and off the spine.

Usually the BFS works well, just push firmly and it should pop off. I just replaced both of mine.

I could not get the top circlip back on after putting on the new handle. Tried and tried. Part of my problem is that I had my handles covered with leather and french stitching (they are beautiful) by Classic 9 Upholstery, and there is not as much room as there was before the leather went on. I used a 5mm phillips head bolt of the proper length, maybe 35mm, held a nut on top with a very fine nosed needle nose pliers and screwed the bolt in from the bottom. The handle pivots nicely on the bolt and since it has very little movement does not seem to wear on anything. Makes it very easy to disassemble and reassemble the door panels.

I got them off , Saved two but lost two. Am seriously thinking of using a bolt and nut to put them back on,

It’s an old thread but I took off the bottom one only. I needed 3 hands. My wife helped and she held one end of circlip claw with a small screw driver while I pushed one the other. Came right off.

The pin has a slight up/down play. They sell very small needle nose pliers with long thin tips. Press the pin to give you some room. Grab the back side (opposite side of the C-clip opening and pull. It should slide off fairly easy. That’s my experience. Install them the same way.
