Time-sert question
My locking bolt for the speedometer drive shaft on my 68 transmission is stripped. I have been using time-serts and I’m very happy with them compared to helicoils. My problem is the M8 x 1.25 kit standard insert length is 11.65mm. The depth of the hole is about 10.2mm. Time-sert sell a 9mm long carbon steel insert and an 8mm long stainless. I am concerned the 9mm may be to close to the end and could blow out what I believe is a mag case. Not sure about stainless and mag. I’m considering cutting an insert I have, I realize I will loose the locking feature, I would just loctite it in. There is no rotational force on this bolt/pin. Suggestions/comments.

I have cut Time serts many times to work in situations like this
You will lose the locking feature but I think you'll be fine
