Clutch Helper Spring Problem

Recently bought an '86 930 and trying to fix a clutch issue with the clutch release helper spring. As far as I can see, everything is assembled correctly, but can't get the spring to stay set. I can rotate the clutch arm back to where the spring almost sets, but won't stay there. Wondering if the spring might be sprung (?) or if I'm missing something. Any ideas or suggestions to fix this? Wish I had a spare, but they look to be rather pricey for just a test -

The Vise Grip is preventing the spring from resetting. The spring is at a point where its almost set, but not quite over the threshold to stay in position. Any ideas?

The spring is good, I always have to go to the turbo manual to get the right load direction
The thing I recall8 is the spring sits on a different level than what I imagined.

Not sure I follow re. the level. I've looked at the 930 manual and everything looks correct (not that it's all that clear anyhow). For the like of me I can't figure this out. Everything looks correct. Slightly different from my 911SC, but same principle. This one just refuses to snap in position and stay.

Update

So I purchased a new spring and bracket to solve this spring reset problem. I found that the old spring seemed to be bent, and the new spring was longer between the ends. Looked promising -

(Old spring in on top)

Replaced both parts, but unfortunately this didn't solve the problem as the spring won't stay set. Here's video showing trying to set the spring, and when pressure on pry bar is released, the spring resets.

What am I missing here? My understanding is (and is this way on my SC), that the spring gets "set", and then you measure and adjust the gap between the two arms clutch release arms. The spring then stays in this set position through the full operation of the clutch. It should never go back to the reset position. Is this correct? I'm at a loss right now -

TIA -

The spring goes "over the top." You pry it and the arm until the spring goes in the direction you are prying all by itself (for a short distance). That's when you attach the cable and do this adjustment. When properly adjusted, the spring continues to go 'over the top' with each pedal push, then goes back 'over the top' to its rest position.

Thanks SM. I figured the 930 had to be the same as my SC (I think I understand what you mean by 'over the top' - same as being "set"), but it won't go there even after replacing parts. I'm really stumped with this but will keep beating on it (maybe literally!)

Hmmm.... I know nothing about 930 applications. It seems to me that on an SC, when the spring goes over the top, it hits something which prevents its further travel 'back.' I wonder what yours is hitting.

I use a LONG, heavy screwdriver to pry/cock the Omega spring.

The arm is stopped by the lower "finger" on the bracket (shown in picture). Otherwise it would hit the exhaust pipe.

Both spring and bracket are new, and the clutch arm looks to be the correct number (930.116.713.5R). So really stumped as to why this won't cooperate -
