Dansk Fuel Tank Advice

In 2015 I embarked on my 86 Carrera project. I'm in the reassembly phase now. I bought a Dansk fuel tank from our host, as the original was rotted out. 3 years later I'm finally putting it in...

It doesn't fit. Seems to be too wide by about an Inch, making it impossible to get the brackets on it to clamp it down (It covers the bracket hardware points).

Has anyone else had this issue?

The reviews seem pretty good... Is there variance in fitment on different years? Any advice/help is appreciated. I'm pretty bummed and spending another $500 on another tank seems like a massive gamble.

Just a thought, with the tank out use a block of wood and hammer and see if you can move the tank edge in.

Not sure what the solution is to your particular problem without getting into some fab work. As a data point however, I bought a dansk tank from pelican this summer. I installed it into a 79 SC with zero issues. It certainly had more of a gloss finish than yours. Not sure what else may have changed over the years.

I bought a 100l tank and I had to trim the edges to get it to fit.

The early Dansk tanks had fitment issues like you are having. Others have dealt with this, just keep checking this forum for answers.

Unfortunately, the Dansk tanks also do not have a Pre-Filter built in to protect the fuel pump.

I can help w a pre-filter if needed.

Thanks Len. I bought one of your filter kits… It looks great. I need to get this tank to fit in there before I can install it.

I made the mistake of not prefitting it as soon as I purchased the tank.

Would other guys recommend I trim the edges? That seems really dangerous. Or am I out a fuel tank?

Len:
Wouldn't mind seeing a link or picture of your pre-filter...
