space between bilstein inside boge strut

Hi guys :),

I was working on my boge strut and put a bilstein shock absorber inside...

and I was wondering if this little space is normal? Did I miss something??

Thanks a lot:)!

If i'm correct , Bilstein must be mounted in Bilstein strut.

Nop monsieur, bilstein existe for boge strut

The gap is normal. I did this to my 75 last year and I ran into the same question.

The gland nut literally dead stops a few mm from the top. I did run into an issue where one side came loose. I believe it may have been the safety washer wasn't bent over all the way on the top nut on the insert (in the frunk). Causing it to rotate a bit and get loose.

So it seem's to be norma! Thanks a lot :)

Yes, normal and correct. - I called Bilstein about the first set I did and they confirmed.

great thank you :)

It helps too if you use the gland nut tool Bilstein makes for this. If you call them or send email you can buy one (they used to be free). $12 I think. This will allow you to put some good torque on the nut without scratching it up (like if you use a pipe wrench, for example).

Thanks for this information.

Unfortunately, I already tightened the nut with a vise-grips. As you said, it makes some scratch on the nut...

But it doesn"t seems to be a big deal.

This is a electrical coupler I got at Home Depot that I ground down with an angle grinder. I can get a big pipe wrench on it now. I just hope the little lugs don't break off.

Fantastic !!!!!!! Unfortunnately, I don't have your skill nor your tool.

By the way, I 'am rebuilding the front wheel axel unit... as you can see, it was not useless ;) !!

If your rebuilding your front suspension you have the skills my friend.

mepstein 01-17-2019 10:29 AM

I use my spanner wrench to tighten. Available at most bike shops for around $15
