Trailing Arm Upgrade Questions??
Hey folks, I read through some threads but I'm still not sure what is possible.
The project: 1973 911, wide body conversion, purchased with a 930 gear box and a chevy 350 (I know very offensive to some) I'm converting to a LS3 DBW / 996 6-speed combo. Going with coil over suspension from Tarett because the middle section of torsion tube is removed to accommodate the 996 6 speed. Everything is reinforced / welded in and the tube is trimmed back to the inner portion of the rear trailing arm mounts. My dilemma came up with the "while I'm here..." I might as well look into trailing arm upgrades. There doesn't seem to be an aftermarket bolt in, but it looks like people are using newer aluminum arms. The current arms have 3"spacing so the 3.5 will be needed for brake upgrades. I am currently using spacers to give me the offset I need. So does that open possibilities/options on different arms? Will newer arms improve handling or just be lighter? What years/models should I be looking for? Are they a straight bolt in? what am I missing? The car isn't a track car, just a fun street/canyon cruiser. Thank you in advance for your feedback! |

I put '74 swing arms with coil overs on my '69. I had the bosses for the bottom shock bolts machined back and inch, and things are very tight. If I had it to do over again, I'd just use the stock swing arms since it's pretty big project and basically not much advantage. If it isn't a track car, I'd consider it just added effort and expense for not enough pay back.
