OK, all you wiring Guru's out there, here is a trick wiring question for you. On my 1980 911SC main fuse panel, fuse #5 has a grey wire going to the "top" (relay side) side of the fuse. There is a yellow wire coming out of the "bottom" or fused side that goes to the right headlight low beam. Fuse #5 is jumpered (internally in the fuse panel) to fuse #6 for power. My question is, what is the grey wire on fuse #5? It is not shown in the wiring schematic for a 1981 SC, but the end is obviously made up like the rest of the wires terminated in the fuse box. I tried disconnecting the unknown grey wire, but can not find anything that is disabled. Any and all suggestions or guesses are welcome.
Thanks, Fred Cook '80 911SC coupe |

Your fog lights operate only when your headlights are on low beam. The wire your talking about is the signal wire for the fog light relay, indicating your headlights are on low beam. Even if you don't have the fog light option on your car the wire harness has this wire in it.

Kevin,
Thanks, makes sense. By the way, I also once was a Corvair junkie. I owned and restored a 1966 140hp Corsa coupe and a 1966 Monza convertible that only had 22,178 miles on it when I pulled it out of a storage shed where it had lived for 20 yrs. The mystery of the grey wire is solved! Thanks, Fred Cook '80 911SC coupe |
