How to disconnect door speaker?

On a 76 Carrera, how do you disconnect the wires running to the speakers from behind?
I saw a YouTube on how to remove the door panel, but the guy just snipped the wires.

Remove the grill-you should see screws, remove them pull speaker and cut wires

Unscrew the speakers and you will see the female connections. They just pull off by hand. If stuck use needle nose but if you intend to use the speaker be careful to not pull off the male ends attached to the speakers.

Good, I was hoping not to have to cut the wires.
