Color Block on Hood

Does anyone know the history or rationale as to why some cars have two tone hoods on the front. Is there a reason behind this or is it purely looks?

Also, do they sell decal of color blocks?

I would guess its for racing purposes so the announcers and pit crew can see which car it is easier especially if they have multiple cars of the same livery. You can get a piece of vinal wrap in whatever color you want

My uneducated guess is that in team racing, multiple cars on the same team running simultaneously, the color blocks are an easy way to determine which car is which from front/behind if the numbers are not readily visible.

This was done on the 914-GTs.

Whenever we did it, it was because the nose was damaged and we didn't want to repaint it.

Because Racing, so it was an easy sell, and there was always the likelihood that it would have to be done again.

Thanks for the feedback, I dig the colors on the long hood. Unique, funky and suprisingly coordinated.

If anyone has any more pics of cars with this racing setup, feel free to drop them in this thread.

Not sure about color changes, but I have been using my hood "bra" for many years for road debris protection. And yes, I do remove it often enough to avoid discoloration of the hood!

i seen it on a few cars and as the others have said it was race cars. I always thought it had something to do with the advertisers as thats usually right where the advertiser stickers were placed.

My choice was based on aesthetics. The build was intended to be a "period reminiscent" hot rod, with some attitude. All the choices were based on my personal vision rather than being "correct".

The color block was used on the 904, 906 and 910 race cars. In some cases it was the entire hood that was a different color.

I like the look but not always the color combinations.
