Long hood bumpers (<'73) on a short hood car (>'74)

Perhaps a stupid question, but is it possible to put long hood bumpers on a short hood car? Or is it too complicated/expensive to make those adjustments? Your advice is very welcome, as I contemplate my first '60s/70s 911/912 buy. Thanks!

very possible. I would say slightly out of vogue in my circle of p-car enthusiasts. In the 70's and 80's people were forward dating longhoods into impact bumper cars ( A LOT) and think how awful that is.

Still, I would do it, If I sustained a minor front or rear end collision. Backdating (as it's typically called) is about a 20k-40k proposition. Some have done it for much less, some have done it for much more. (singer)

I did it (and more); you can see what it takes here:

so this is how a backdate project starts...

I include a pricing spreadsheet of all the parts that went into it.

you can get fiberglass hood in long hood style with latch points for stock short hood location. still have to deal with fenders and bumper.

I think I understand your question.
Looking at the two styles you would need to figure out how to make up the height difference. If you put the long hood bumper and valance on a short hood car there would probably be 4” of space to fill. I guess the valance could be made taller. But I don’t think it would look good.

There was a thread where a guy made a custom one like what you are thinking and then backed out on deals to make more. It looked ugly IMO.

i did it, not that hard. extending the hood is the trickiest part, but with modest fab skills, an all steel backdate isn't too tough...
