Which headlights to prevent rust in headlight buckets?
Maybe a strange question but it would seem that the Bosch H1/H4/H5 may keep out the water better than the stock American or Hella type?
Do H5's require a relay like the H4's? What do you recommend for an SC? Thanks! Markus ![]() |

For looks combined with function, I prefer the H-1 or the H-4. They probably do let less moisture in than the old USA sealed beam set-up. That said, another and best way to prevent rust in the buckets is to be sure the drain hole in the bottom of the bucket remains open and you have the rubber drain valves in place...it doesn't hurt to remove the lights, clean out the buckets from time to time, either.

I'd only add that you ought to wax the headlight buckets. Removing the lights, cleaning things up, and performing a wax is a great Saturday afternoon job.
Another is to pull the two rear tailights and remove all of the debris (grass, dirt, gravel) that resides above and under the taillight. Clean and wax this area, clean the reflective material in the taillight, and put it all back together. This took a bit of time but I now know that I have some degree of protection back there. You will be amazed how much crap there is back there. John
