3.6 motor saga... distributor clues.

Well, Ingo suggested that the 993 motor should idle OK with either distributor connected, so:

I unplugged the coil wire from distributor #1. No change.

I unplugged the coil wire from distributor #2. Engine promptly dies.

Does this mean I'm running on only one set of plugs? Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It should idle on either. You have a problem w/ the one set of plugs.

try to turn the rotor on the outeer distributer. If you can turn it you snapped the dist belt and it is not working.

Take the Cap of the Distr. if you can turn it free the Belt is broken .
This is the Distr. hanging free ,the other one has the Shaft going into the Engine . If that is ok take the Wire from the working Distr, and put it on the non Working . If it works now you have a Problem in the Circuit to the Coil .
