Dumb G50 shift coupler question
I am pulling the 3.2 and G50 from an 88 and I can't get the shift coupler off the tranny. I took the 2 bolts off that attach it to the shift rod that goes to the shifter and what I guess is an alignment bolt but I can't get it loose from the tranny.
Before I take a hammer and punch to it am I missing anything? It isn't threaded or anything is it? Plenty of experience with 915 shift couplers but first time with a G50 Thanks in advance

There is a single horizontal bolt on the trans shifter which is very close to the trans cover.
Come in from the drivers side on the horizontal. Swivel 13 on long extension gets you on once you have cleared the rubber seal Very unique bolt. Don’t break the aluminum inside shifter, it’s expensive The G 50 trans can be lowered in the front to change the starter unlike the 915 Bruce |

You don't have to touch the shift coupler or anything inside the car. The single bolt is under the car right where the shifter shaft comes out of the transmission. The bolt has a stepped shaft to hook the linkage shaft to the transmission with no slop. If I remember correctly it has a 10mm head. (maybe as large as 12mm)

I was preparing for a partial drop yesterday - part of this was separating the shift coupler from the nose of the G50.
1) From inside the car, remove the shift coupler cover. 2) Don't undo anything on the shift coupler but unhitch the rubber boot and push it back through the tunnel towards the back of the car. 3) Put the gearbox in 2nd or 4th gear. 4) Underneath the car continue pulling back the rubber boot until you can get to the single bolt holding the shift coupler and G50 selector shaft together. 5) With a 13mm spanner undo and remove the single bolt through the coupler and the G50 selector rod. 6) Use a small pry bar (or similar) to separate the coupler from the G50 selector rod - you want to move the coupler to the front of the car whilst not pulling the G50 out of 2nd/4th gear. Can be a little frustrating. Last time I was in there I fitted a new rubber boot and that made it a bit of a pain this time. Once separated there isn't a huge amount of gap between the coupler and the G50 - but it's enough ![]()
