Metric Bolt Kit

Does anyone know where to get a good metric bolt kit for the 911. It would be nice to have some replacements on hand when I'm in the middle of a project.

Thank you,
Mark

944 Yellow Zinc Fastener Kits

This kit was put together by someone on the 944 board (I know, not the 911) but the bolts are very simliar and most identical. All yellow chromate 8.8 etc.

I bought both kits (currently putting my car back together) and have used lots of the bolts, nuts and washers already - just like OEM.

Since you broached the "non-host" subject...

Metric Fasteners
A much wider selection. All yellow zinc coated. However, you will have to open your wallet a bit if you really want a decent selection. Look around, you might find a selection that works as an "emergency stash" for the garage.

I bought a kit from Metric Screw and Tool a long time ago and frankly, it was not great. It seems that the 911 uses a lot of uncommon lengths. My new bolt kit has a much better selection... its called ACE Hardware... Still I find there are a lot of missing lengths and sizes, but its better than nothing.

The best collection I have seen is to strip a few 911s and have the HW replated I know not everyone can do this, but after I stripped 1 tub I seem the have a variety of great hardware.

If you plan on being a Metric car nut for a long time I would recommend skipping the nut kits listed here and buying bulk from MSC or Grainger. More expensive than the kits, but worth it. I did that with my CV bolts 10 years ago. Got a whole box of 100 for less than a set of 12 from Perf. Prods. (Pelican was not in bus. at the time). Still working my way through them

Its alot cheaper if you have some time to order from Mcmaster Carr/Fastenal/Eagle day. It just takes a little bit to pick what you want, and rarely some are not available in Yellow Zinc at the time. I did this, and labeled a storage container. Way better than the kits out there. I have 3 of these storage boxes filled/labeled with everything I will ever need.

That is exactly what I was going to recommend. I got and old kit from Performance products years a go and just refilled it from McMaster Karr over the years and added a couple of more compartmented boxes over the years. that is the way to go. In LA I can get the parts overnight UPS from them.

i would imagine ordering them in relatively small numbers would be more exeensive no ?

i think they ebay selers just buy boxes of the bolts which is way cheaper , break them out into kits and sell them. I imagine its quite a decent profit margin. i am surpised a bunch of pelicans dont just get together and do the same.

Went onto the McMaster web site. Very easy to order and organize. I picked the bolts that are zinc. But it doesn't say that the nuts and bolts are yellow or not. Guess i will call tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving.

if you don't mind used nuts and bolts, you can pick up a bunch of them at the junk yard for a couple of bucks.

I'm also wondering how you identify yellow zinc hardware on McMaster-Carr. If it just says "zinc-plated", I'd assume it was silver, not yellow?

Belmetric.com and Fabory.com are the two places I get most of my yellow zinc plated fasteners from. Belmetric allows online ordering, per piece. Fabory requires you to phone in your order.... and prefer orders of 50 or 100 pieces at a time. Both sites clearly identify if the fastener is yellow zinc (yellow dichromate).
