Strut Tower Rust
I decided to replace the batteries in my 1970 911 with glass mat batteries. While cleaning up the battery boxes and trunk area I noticed the drivers side strut tower corrosion in the area below the retaining nut and washer. It appears that it has been this way for quite some time? The front end seems solid and drives well. Is this part of the tower vital to the entire structure or is it more of a "cap"? What are my repair options, body shop welding, jb weld, etc? Obviously now that I noticed it I need to get it fixed. I have attached a picture. I appreciate your advice. Thanks Darryl

It appears to be crumbled sealant applied between metal to keep it from rusting.

Can't tell from pic, it's not a big deal just keep the jb weld for your lawnmower. Remove and exam if rusty clean to bare metal prime and paint. If rusted through which it doesn't look like it you can replace with new metal welded in. Need better pics

Thanks dpmulvan. After further examination there is some corrosion. Although the part has been discontinued by Porsche I was able to source a used part from a local supplier. Cheers!
