Power steering on an SC.................

Has anyone successfully changed an SC to either hydraulic or electric power steering? My SC is used almost exclusively for street driving and I can't help but believe that switching over to power steering would add to the experience. Probably one of the newer electric systems would be an easier install. What say you?

EPS in Carrera 3.2

Earlier this year my ace technician installed the EPAS electric power steering in my Carrera 3.2. Probably not a dimes worth of difference for an SC. About the same hardware as the referenced link but with a more sophisticated controller. The controller has input from a torque sensor and a speed sensor. So the assist is there in proportion to the demand. At low speed there is assist for parking and at highway speeds you are not aware of any assist. For me, in my 80s with chewed up rotator cuffs, having the parking assist is a real pleasure. USA agent is American Power Train. Be prepared for sticker shock!

Earlier I had assembled a kit for installing the EPS from Maval Gear. A lot more work as lots of cutting and some welding involved. Variable assist is controlled with a pot. Available at half price--PM me if interested.

This project is still on my bucket list, when everything else on the car is completed....LOL....So I have been keeping an eye on other peoples progress.

It looks like a few years ago EZ Electric Power Steering co....the company that produces the unit for air cooled 911's made a design change to simplify the installation.

Looks like they have refined the control box and the unit for LHD cars. no longer do you need to modifying the area around the secondary shaft to support installation.
The revised unit now bolts directly to the primary shaft for a much simpler installation

I’m resurrecting this thread as I’m contemplating assisting my old rotator cuffs when attempting to park my RST hot rod.
There appears to be only two suppliers of semi-bolt-on electric power steering for the 911 with factory A/C, EZpowersteering at $2,000 and EPAS Performance at $1,450, all USD. Anybody have anything new to share.......performance, reliability, installation, etc.
Thank in advance.
Johan
