What a difference - 3.2 ICV cleaning!

Literally one of the easiest things I have done on this car and one of the most rewarding in terms of positive outcomes. I have had my 1985 for nearly 30 years and 250,000 miles. I have never done anything to the ICV.

After reading a few threads on the subject, watching the following video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRZG-s_55CU&t=6s

and realizing that my car had a bit of a cold start issue, I decided to give it a try. Total time was less than 10 minutes. Where it used to struggle a bit to keep running at startup and took a while to smooth out in idle, the car now starts and idles smoothly from the beginning. Three clamps and one connector and it is removed. Spray carb cleaner until clean, reinstall, bam. That easy.

For what it is worth, I highly recommend this maintenance item.

SpyderMike,
You got the inside of that ICV spotless. if you want new hoses for your ICV, I found them at NAPA - they just needed some trimming. They are just a little thicker than the originals so i used bigger clamps. The numbers are NAPA 7378 and 11670.

Wow that's a great discovery by MConn!

NAPA identifies these hoses as coolant hoses that are heat and ozone resistant covering. I wonder how they are with oil, since the intake receives oil vapor (and sometimes a big burp of actual oil it if overfilled) from from the oil tank vent hose.

Also if SpyderMike's picture below is present day, I see the original fuel supply line underneath the intake manifold. Not trying to be a chicken-little-the-sky-is-falling but that hose is a bad leak waiting to happen, as is the hose joining the fuel pressure damper and fuel pressure regulator

Careful here; while EPDM hoses (typically used for coolants) are ok for occasional exposure to oil, any hose with application for exposure longer term should be rated for for this, like Vamac or similar (flourinated silicone, PTFE, etc.).

Thanks KTL. It was original and now all Engine compartment fuel lines have been replaced with new ones supplied by Paul Mason. I feel better now.

Paul makes a nice set of replacement fuel lines. I got a set for my '86 Carrera that I need to install once the engine is built back up
