Removed Rear Anchors
I removed those big black anchors off my rear bumper today. They weigh a ton. My question is this. What have some of you done to illuminate the rear license plate. I don't want to get pulled over for something so lame.

Maybe a Neon License plate holder, or a holder that has a light installed on the top part of the plate holder.

Did you replace them with anything (lightweight of course)? I'd wondered is they were a US only thing, but every Euro spec car I've seen has them too. Love to see a picture.

I replaced them with air. In other words I plugged the holes and painted. This by the way is not an original idea of mine. There are quite a few guys here that did the same things with great results. But I don't recall anybody addressing the rear license plate illumination.

Please let me (us) know what you work out with the license plate lighting...I've done the same thing, but have not found a lighted frame that "fits" yet.

![]() Lots of econo boxes(Toyota, Nissan, Geo, Prism etc. ) used lights like these. Go to a salvage yard and walk around. They're everywhere. BMW 2002 also used similar setups but with external screw heads that are cosmeticly challenged.

Thanks Bill. That's more along the line of what I'm looking for. I thought it was you who posted that before. When I looked at photos of your car I didn't see a rear shot.
Thanks Tom

I took Bill up on another option he considered but didn't go with - the lighted licence plate frame, about $20. Just run a wire and your good to go. Also saves all that weight from the light housings.

The light housings/ bulbs and wire weighs ~12 oz.
My first choice was the PMS lights from the original RS 3.0. PMS doles them out only after you provide the chassis # proving that they were oem for your car. A friend of mine that was on the early '70's factory race teams and still has solid contacts at the factory and w/ PMS wasn't able to obtain them for me either.

I dunno, when I got rear-ended on the LIE, I was pretty happy to have them, as ugly and heavy as they may be. They (well one specifically) saved me from a lot of damage.

I did a search on license plate holders etc. I found license plate bolts that have lights in them. You don't even know there are lights until you turn them on. I think I'm going to give them a try.

On the west coast....there are parts stores that have standard non-rice license plate brackets that have a 12volt ilumination that SHOULD survive the local Gendarme....UNLESS Y'ALL fail the attitude test.....

Lol, I think we should put together a FAQ to direct people to certain topics:
Flares Rear license plate illumination Steering wheel bushing Big Reds 3.6 transplant Superchargers Turbochargers Wheel fitment Ride height blah, blah, blah Maybe it should go in the Owner's Gallery?

I have the same rear lights as Bill Verberg. (I'm doing my best to reproduce his car!) The lights are from a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder. I know... I feel so ashamed.
