Atlanta Pelicans it's time to get your A/C working - read this
I know some of the Atlanta Pelicans have had problems with their A/C systems because of leaks. Since I work on A/C equipment what I would like to do is schedule a date probably in April or May where we can get together to see if we can get your systems back into operation and working properly.
I have the equipment to remove old refrigerant, pressure test the lines, evacuate the system and charge with refrigerant. I can also get R-12, 134a, Freeze 12 if that is what you want to use. So if you are interested, let me know. We can do it at our shop in Fayetteville, (I will be moving to Stockbridge in Feb), or if someone on the North side of town is willing to contribute some electricity we can do it on the north side. As far as the refrigerant goes, if you want to use Freeze 12, I can purchase individual 16 oz cans. With regard to the R-12, I have to purchase it in 30 lb containers which iwill not be cheap. 134A can be purchased at Autozone or Pep Boys if your system requires that. I think they also carry the R-12 cans in 14 oz and I will check on that. If so, I can purchase them using my CFC Certification. I can provide the equipment free of charge along with the labor but I will ask that you pay for the refrigerant. In addition, if you have any other a/c problems (compressor will not come on, leaks on compressor, etc), I will help you with that. Let me know if you are interested and once I get a final list, we will schedule a date to do it. Depending on how many vehicles involved, it may take two days to get everybody taken care of, but that's not a problem. Steve "A Porsche does more then just go fast in a straight line" |

I'm definitely interested - count me in on your plans. I've been looking for a Sanden compressor (for cheap) to replace the York. I'm also thinking about replacing all lines with barrier hose as well, but I do want to stay with R12.

I am in, and Stockbridge works great. I recently removed the lines to have new ones made, I was thinking Hoze wizard, any suggestions? Member Dirk Pitt is in the middle of his AC rebuild and he lives in Stock bridge too!! I am going to try the freeze 12 I think. You know what would be great, If I could bring my components down and we could look over them. I could replace the necessary parts or whatever and be ready to go on re-charge weekend!!! I will get in touch off line and see if that will work in your schedule.

Definitely count me in! Im still mulling the r12/r134a/freeze12 decision..... and whether to change to barrier lines. I already have new (rebuilt) compressor, expansion valve, dryer, and replacement (stock) lines for those that were known to be leaking.
BTW, let me know if you need some help with the refrigerant. I have a buddy that works for a commercial refrigeration company, and has already offered to get refrigerant for me (any kind!). Would also be in 30lb. canister. Send me a PM if interested. Keep us posted. Thanks!

Thats wonderful news!
I installed new lines and upgraded to R134 last summer, but the high pressure cut-off switch on the compressor would'nt work. Thats something I need to address. It would be worth watching and learning............... Please post when your ready to go. Regards Bob 73.5T |

AC = Extra Weight = Slower Car. Removed my complete system last fall as I found I only used it twice since I've owned the car.
I am interested in the gathering and experiencing an AC system that cools.

It looks like a lot of guys are in need or just want to upgrade their hoses. Is this something we need to address before the meet in April or May? I'm starting to gather some seals and a replacement duct for anyone in need.

Prior to buying my car, the PO had a system leak repaired (?), replaced the front condensor fan and recharged with R-12. System worked great through the end of the summer, but I'm guessing a recharge will be in order by spring.
Steve, since my system is otherwise original (dryer, lines, etc.)...is there anything I should buy before the gathering as a "preemptive" strike? Great idea.....you da man! Maybe R22tech will join in the fun....heck, you're only one guy!

When is your trip to Houston?!?
This fall I realized that rather than waiting forever to get the money to pay someone to fix my AC that leaks, but otherwise works I need to fix it myself. So that will likely be a project that I do over the next 6 months. I'm jealous of the Atlantans.

Well, I think I have a plan on how we’re going to do this. This will have to be a group effort to make things happen, so I will be counting on you guys to help with some things and it will make things go faster.
First, the A/C System will have be checked out to find out if it is working properly. If it’s not, the problem needs to be located, and a fix needs to be determined. Minor Problems (leaking schrader valves, fitting leaking etc.) An attempt will be made to fix minor problems and if things look good, the system will be evacuated and charged. Major problems (barrier hoses leaking, compressor seals bad, bad compressor, fan not working, etc.) Major problems will probably require parts to be ordered and installed at a later date. If it is determined that there is a major repair problem (hopefully there will be none) then we can reschedule another date to meet again and if necessary give a helping hand help in install the part or parts unless it’s done before the next meeting. What to bring. Replacement Parts If you already have parts that you want to change out, then bring them along with you. Work could be done on installing them while other vehicle systems are being checked. Tools If you plan on doing some work on your A/C System or change out some parts, bring along the tools you think you may need to install them. I have four floor jack stands and two floor jacks that I will bring along should the need arise to use them. In addition, I will bring along an assortment of tools which will be made available should someone need something. If you think your P-car A/C system has a electrical problem, then if at all possible bring a wiring diagram with you. If you don't have one, check with one of the other Pelican Heads to see if they have one. I will bring the info I have for the 78 - It greatly helps when troubleshooting electrical problems. Lastly, this get together is going to be for working on the vehicles A/C system. If you are experiencing other problems, then that needs to be done at another time. However, if time permits there may be a possibility it can be scheduled in. Hope this info helps and if you have any questions, you can e-mail me or post it on the board. The date and location will be determined later on. Right now, I am looking at May for the time to do it. It will be warmer and if you have to work on the ground, it won’t be cold. I'm going to make a trip down to visit friends in Chatanooga & Atlanta (live in town for 6 years until moving to Cincinnati) around the same timing and would like to get together for your P-Car AC Party ! Also have wanted to make a trip up to visit the PAP north of Atlanta.....does anyone know if they are still in business ?? I can't find their website.....somewhere near Dalohnega, GA ?
