Engine mount washers

When fitting engine mounts is it necessary to fit the curved washer or should the engine mount on its own be ok

The washer is a absolute must. Some say the curve go's up, some say down. The factory recommended that the curve faces away from the mount back in the 70's. Don't know the consensus these day's.

The current installation has the dish of the washers facing toward the mount.

I just changed my mounts at the weekend and had 2 washers on engine mounts but only one (lower) on the transmission mounts. I take it there are meant to be 2 in both locations?

i have seen most of the time since the 1980`s only 2 on bottom that is about 1000x 911`s...it could be different by the location and mechanics in the regions too....pet shows only 2 on bottom but lists 4 ...;-)

PET parts diagrams for transmission suspension say there’s four washers. I’ve seen four on all three 911s I’ve owned

Thanks, that's helpful. From service records it seems like the transmission on my car last came out in 1998 so 20 years with only 2 washers on trans mounts.

I’ve seen a motor fall out because washers were not used. I wouldn’t have believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes.
