AC for non ac car.
Anyone install AC from scratch in a mid-year?
Which kit? Results? The Electric version looks nice but it is just too expensive for my budget. G |

I am sure it can be done with a Grffiths system. Some parts you will have to source from the used and for sale section. You would need a lot of parts, and I bet it would be 5 grand for parts.
The one thing for sure, when you are done, you will have a car with great AC not just some AC with a Griffiths system.

I just finished up an install of the classic retrofit, which I recall being similar in price to the Griffiths once you got allt he bits. It's so clean an install and really wasn't that bad, maybe 20 hours of work. A good chunk of hat was because I have an early long hood and couldn't use the front mounting points.

My classic Retrofit AC performer great here in Florida. Went into a 75 non-AC car. Blows WAY more air than my upgraded stock system in my 89 (think Griffiths blowers, etc), and in our cars thats the key, move more air. Love it.

I can’t speak to the performance of mine yet because a it’s only around the high forty’s here at the moment and b it’s not critical to fill the ac system with refrigerant and were quarantined in wa state at the moment

Have thought about fitting the Classic Retrofit evaporator unit only to your '89 and keeping the existing engine driven compressor and the existing condensers? I have no firsthand experience with the Classic Retrofit stuff but the evaporator unit looks an attractive upgrade to me. Interested in your opinion. |
