1989 911 3.2 Porsche broke down

I'm sure this mechanical question has been asked before hope u guys can help me out. I haven't driven my 1989 911 3.2 in about three weeks I was out of town. Today was a really nice day so the wife and I decided to take the 911 out for a drive. She started right up pulled her out of the garage let her idle for about 10 mins then she died I started her right back up after a couple of cranks which isn't normal then she idled fine. I was like this has never happened before but she started up and ran. About 1.5 mile down the rode she died for good now where stranded had her towed to the house. Any tips what it could be? it acted like it ran out of gas. Car had 1/2 tank of gas plus I added a couple gallons didn't help

As others said the DME relay controls power to the DME (stage 1) and power to the fuel pump (stage 2) and these are known to fail. Having a spare is a good idea because it’ll allow for a quick swap test. You can also make a temporary jumper that simulates a good DME relay all powered up. If that makes the car start you found your issue w/o throwing a part at it. Do a search here, plenty of information how to bypass a DME relay.

Next it’s time for some diagnostics:

- is there power to the DME (vibrating ICV, with key in ON) - if not check alarm
- is fuel and spark missing or only one
(brake cleaner into air box and see if it catches)
(test light to spark plug wire or spare spark plug watching for spark)

If both are missing check the flywheel sensors, resistance and signal
If no fuel check DME relay, fuel pump, filter, fuel pulses (NOID light)
If no spark check coil, spark pulses with test light.

Cheers
Ingo

Three weeks is enough time for mice to wreak havoc on your Carrera.
