Caliper Rebuild - Last Step
This surely exists here somewhere, as I think I have posted it before. Years ago. 911 brake systems mostly bleed themselves. I used gravity, and then hooked my MightyVac to each caliper to suck out any air bubbles. At any rate, when you think you are done the pedal will travel too far before the pads touch the rotors. The reason: The square-section o-ring is flexing. When you release the pedal, it flexes back and retracts the piston slightly.
To fix this, I remove the pads one by one and push the brake pedal an inch or two. This moves the piston out another mm or so. Sometimes, ideally, I have to tap the pad back in between the rotor and piston. This ensures there is no play between the piston, pad and rotor. Do this with all eight pads. High, tight brake pedal is the outcome.
