Photos of 15x8s on my narrow body '74

]Okay - Jack Olsen posted new photos for me: special thanks to him. Sorry for the holdup...

The photos farther down in this thread show 15x8 Fuchs with 225-50-15 Yokohama EVS100 tires mounted on the rear of my yellow '74 911. Some fender rolling (well, hammering, really), was involved, but "damage" (I like to call them "war wounds") was minimal.

The set up for the rear is 3-degrees negative camber. Torsions are 26mm w/ Bilstein Sports. The entire suspension is lowered a tad below Euro height.

The handling is phenomenal. The car is much more solid at high speed than with 205s and turn-in is greatly enhanced. The car wants to oversteer, which I want the car to do -- to a point. There is a bit of rubbing on the driver's side, but only in very agressive right-hand turns. This will be fixed soon utilizing either stronger torsion bars or possibly a decrease to 45-series Khumos (sp?) - we shall see.

Please give me your opinions on this set up. If anyone wants a particular p.o.v. shot, I can try to add one this afternoon.

Thanks all.

That looks so good. I might have to keep an eye open for a pair of 8s for my '76.

I replaced a duplicate photo and added one dead-on to the rear to give an idea of the camber settings.

Thanks, Adam. It definitely isn't a fit for the faint of narrow-body heart. But the benefits outweigh the detriment so far. The best part is no flares!

David,

I could only access one photo ...

The 225s look great. Oh, and I like the colour of your car, too!

You can send them to me, David. Email

Although I'm stuck at work and it's 11am - I won't be able to host them for another seven hours or so - I'll put them up for you!

I was fortunate to see the car this past weekend and it looks great...although the hammering did make me wince, but Kevin did a great job.

Yikes! Those are tight! Looks good... Might as well just bite the bullet and have Kevin install some Carrera/SC flares.

I could. But that'd be the easy way out. I always wondered if 15x8s could fit, and oddly enough, they can despite what has been said.

Besides, you know, narrow bodies are found less and less these days. I simply wanted to combine a narrow body with the wheel/tire combination of an RS Carrera.

Less frontal area. Higher top speed, faster acceleration.

That's right!

The car actually felt slower with the 225s on 7-inch rims. Now with them on 8s, its back to its normal "yee-haw" level.

The use of "yee-haw" in this message is in no way intended to be connected with Howard Dean

Amazing!! Good job. I tried this years ago on my '76 (pre-flares) and the 8s stuck out like the proverbial sore thumb. It looks like you made it work. My hat's off to ya!
