2 901 trans ?s

Did a search on gasket sealers for assembling the intermediate plate and cover. I thought this was just discussed recently. I guess I can't find the magic search words. What is the preferred sealer? I know this is critical because of the tolerance of the plate to case. Which brings me to ques #2.

I mic'd the old gasket (plate to case) at .010. My gasket kit has three gaskets for this position , 2-.006 and 1-.008. How wold you go about setting correct pinion depth with those chioces?

a goobery gasket sealer will push out the thin gasket as the pieces are tightened. i use spray coppercoat on the thin gaskets and let it tack up first. .002 difference isn't much. sounds like the two .006 gaskets should be used. they'll crush a bit.

I just did a 901 regear this winter. Maybe a .006 and .006 combined would crush to .010? I think the kit should have come with a .004 gasket though also, then your problem would be solved.

I have a bunch of spare gaskets (I have a regearing habit LOL)

Ill measure some and see if i have a .004

The factory manual doesnt mention using a sealant when reassembling, gaskets go in dry. I guess if you want to use a sealant use the orange case sealant..

I only bought the sealant up because I remember this debate on Loctite 574 vs. 57? vs. Permatex and so on. To my delight, when I opened up this gearbox, the synchros and dog teeth looked new. I think someone's been in there recently. The input shaft seal was the new type. But the sucker leaked and it looked like Gaskacinch was the sealer of his choice. (Yellow drips into the interior of the case.)
