79 SC targa - shacking clutch
Hi guys
just bought a 79 SC targa and the clutch was shaking in 1st gear when starting to drive...so I did the normal thing, sent the car to a mechanic to change the clutch. So here’s the problem 1- new clutch - car still shakes when driving out in 1st gear. 2- resend it to mechanic, they tried to make it better and still no improvement. Lost the clutch while testing it. 3- new clutch under warranty, tested the car and the clutch is now “holding” almost on top...and still shakes when I start driving in 1st gear.:( read some threads and mainly people refer engine and gearbox mounts, but mechanic says they are OK. any thoughts on what this can be? thank you guys |
for the shaking your transmission mounts most likely bad or loose. Then make sure the engine and trans.is tight together!!
Put a wrench on it 3x 15mm nut should be there and one on starter allen head nut 8mm. For the release ,loosen the clutch cable on the bracket number 15 open wrench about 1 turn on the further nut from engine... ivan this nut...... http://img.pccreation.net/photos/201905121256559489.JPG |
Was the flywheel replaced? New clutch cable?
|
Besides incorrect adjustment, there were a couple of other things contributing to takeoff judder in my 84.
Clutch cable was very dry and grease had become sticky. Replaced. Throttle pedal bushings were shot. (Yes throttle) This allowed a weird little inertial resonance to happen in the linkage. New bushings were the cure. |
Thanks guys!! Really apreciate your help here!! Tomorrow I’ll check with the mechanic so I can get the car perfectly...It’s just not a very pleasant drive at the moment!

so guys, still no luck...im going crazy!! any more advice? cable replaced, clutch os very light but judders now when start to move, and even driving the car it "whoobles" under aceleration...if i drive it hard it even seems to loose grip....any ideas?
one of these days driving it hard the clutch pedal got stuck in the floor for a few seconds, this happened several times... |
Why was a new flywheel refurbished? How did they "lose" the clutch on a test drive? What brand clutch kit was used? Release forks crack, did they look at it? New clutch cable?

Where are you located? Maybe someone on the boards could suggest a different shop.
