still looking for a 911

i posted a 911 wanted post. thanks for all the replies. i have searched far and high for a good project/builder. i guess i need to be more specific. i want a 74-79 targa needing a good home. the ebay ads are outrageous for the car you actually get. autotrader searches turn up that all cars are in california? i am in memphis,tn and will drive a good 8 hours to pick up the right car. my family and i deal in vintage corvettes and they are much easier to find a decent car and have not had trouble when looking for a good builder. price is determined on the car of course.any help would be appreciated. bottom line is i am looking for a complete to semi complete car that needs resto. engine work no prob, boby no prob. a decent 911 is out there!

Did you try the PCA site? www.pca.org (from memory?) they seemed to have alot of East coast cars?? You think you have it bad, try Western Canada with a 1.6 exchange rate to US dollar ... yikes

The Oregon chapter of PCA has a large number of links to classifieds throughout the us. Try them at www.oregonpca.org.

Also, I found mine through a web site that was called Porsche Classified Digest but is now called Enthusiast Cars.com

Troy01,
I live nearby in Little Rock (In fact my girlfriend is from Memphis). I looked at a gold '74 targa 911s over a year ago that may be available still. It is her husband's car, but alas he's fallen victim to a neuro disease and wants to sell as he doesn't even remember the car now. I don't think she's been trying hard to sell it, but I could put you in touch if you're interested. I think I still have a pic or two on my hard drive. Let me know.

Troy,
I haven't spoken to her, but her name is Marilyn Carrico and her number is 501-225-3681. I don't know if she still has the '74 911s targa or not, but think there's a good chance she still does. You can give her my name as a referer (Ryan Vestal).

What a coincidence...I moved about a year ago from St. Pete and likewise knew some folks on Tierra Verde. It was a beautiful place to live, but alas myself and the former 'Missus' had to part ways...

Troy,
Think I'll be tying up 'loose ends' for a very long time!

I agree about her price and politely told her so. She really doesn't understand the car and was probably working from the "Porsche assumption" that many make with respect to our cars. If she still has it, she may be ready to negotiate for much less. If you speak with her and she still has it, I'd be willing to go take another look and find out what I could on the front end for you. My thoughts were that I might have paid in the 7-8k range. I seem to recall it having a strong engine that was probably well maintained, the owner just wasn't a 'detail' guy or his illness was the explanation. Anyway, let me know if you pursue.
