Will a 74 CDI work in a 79?
Will a 74 CDI work in a 79?
I'm helping out a friend. His 79 3.0 CDI has crapped out and I have one from a 74 2.7. Can they be swapped?

No. The SC CDI is a 6 pin unit, as opposed to the 3 pin from the '74. The SC unit is triggered from a magnetic unit in the distributor where as the '74 uses points. Not to mention the fact that the wiring harness and associated ignition wiring are totally different.

Trackrash is absolutely right. 3 pin vs 6 pin.
