brake booster hose question
1979 911 SC stock 3.0
Redoing this car. The vacuum system has caused me some confusion. A few things had been changed over the years and I am trying to straighten everything out. This question is about the brake booster hose. In the below picture I have determined ( I think!) that a hose should be connected to the outlet circled in green. I took extensive notes and pictures (over 600) as I dismantled the car. No where did I make a note or picture of taking anything off this green circled outlet. That leads me to believe it was not hooked up at all. I did have a couple of the cloth braided vacuum hoses that were broken and not hooked up anywhere. ###EDIT - a réponse below reminded me I had a separate set of notes for dropping the motor and I did find where it was in fact hooked up. Hose did tear on removal so still looking for verification exactly where it goes and that it is a single piece of hose running all the way to the booster. Can anyone confirm this is in fact the outlet for a hose going to the brake booster? Is it just a single piece of hose or am I missing something else also? Bonus question: All my cloth braided vacuum hose is in really poor condition. What is the function of the cloth braiding? I am not restoring the car to original. It Is a restomod/hot rod style. Is there any reason not to just use regular vacuum hose I can source locally that does not have the cloth braid? I do not car about originality.Just functionality. Thanks! ![]() Last edited by wareaglescott; 05-19-2019 at 01:27 PM.. |

The green is vacuum for the brake booster, the red just goes into the filter area of the intake for burning up the oil fumes.
The braided line is pretty cheap on Pelican since most of it is thin. Only guessing that that cloth protects it from abrasion and cuts.

Quick note, if the car was running, that line was probably connected or you would have had a major vacuum leak- of course the engine could have been adjusted real rich.

You’re welcome,
The booster hose from the air box goes to a nipple near the transmission on the tunnel. It is just regular vacuum hose- you’ll need a bit over a meter, so order two and make a note that it needs to be in one length- it is sold by the meter and sometimes they will ship it in two pieces. To install, start in the middle under the car and feed in both directions.

The motor is out of the car so the install should be easy. In fact the car is away at the painter which is compounding my problem of figuring out what is what because I dont have the end it hooks up to! Just need to figure out which size hose I need. I notice the PET does not list anything other than a 220mm length. Do you happen to know the size? So if I am just hooking up to a nipple at the back of the tunnel does that mean there is a hard line within the tunnel and then another soft hose will go at the front to connect to the booster? |

You got it. The hard line comes out near the front of the tunnel. Another hose connects it to a short hard line which goes through the firewall. Another hose connects that to the booster. |

Perfect! All making sense now. Pelican forum comes through again.
Thanks Rutager and Walt. Looks like Part #: 55-0623-090-M21 I need to replace all the cloth braided hose in the car. It all was in pretty poor condition. I am going to have to go through all my crates of parts and total up how much I need. |
