YAPM - Yet another phone mount...
I am considering the Rennline clock mount, but in the meantime, here's my setup using a magnetic mount attached to a piece of sheet metal on the bottom of the ashtray unit.
A reasonable compromise that gets me GPS and music interface without blocking anything. Last edited by Quasimoto; 08-31-2018 at 08:37 AM.. |

Very nice.
Can you show us how you fab'd and mounted the piece of sheet metal? |

The metal piece is formed to not touch the leather, so if I go to the Rennline there's no sign of it. (some might be queasy about drilling the bottom of the ashtray, but you could likely use VHB tape)
I am planning to make a sleeker version where only the magnet tab is visible. I'll post when I do... ![]() ![]() |

That's a sweet and elegant solution.....why would you consider something expensive and fiddly?

Meanwhile I’m going to try and waterjet a prototype of my original idea that would mount in a similar spot but be held in place by the closed ashtray. No drilling, and quickly taken in and out.

Love where this is going! Funny I used my ashtray slightly pulled out to rest my phone during a drive the other day. It’s a natural spot for a mount.

Unfortunately I haven’t spent any time on this...this version is working pretty well, so I’ve moved on to the long list of other little items the car needs... :/

hitting a bump, the attached weight to the ashtray is gonna snap drop it.... I guess.
Better to directly Mount the bracket to the knee line.

I’ve only driven it with the mount a couple thousand miles, but luckily no issues like that.
Also, I don’t safari... ![]() Last edited by Quasimoto; 05-15-2019 at 12:43 AM.. |

I recently installed the Rennline magnetic mount. Works great for me. I have a Rennshifter that is 2 in longer than stock and I haven't hit my hand on the phone, I mounted the plate pretty low on the phone though. The magnet isn't strong as the Scosche one I have in my other car, but it's working fine.

Another Mouse Trap
![]() ![]() Took a piece of black flat bar, put in a slight bend and inserted between the vent and housing then slipped on magnetic clip. Don’t have to look down to view WAZE etc. took five mins, works great.

^^^^^^Excellent!
Friction fit is enough? More detail please? Same magnet kit as the others used?

My passenger seat works great with the phone turned off.
