Ignition Plastic Ugliness

In a nearby thread, a member mentioned coconut cream on dashes and plastic parts. I have no picture to post, but the wide plastic piece surrounding my ignition is white-ish. The black outer edges of the emergency flasher switch next to it are even worse. How have you guys rejuvenated these specific plastic parts, which get ugly over time?

Further.....the rest of my dash area looks pretty good, but would look better if I treated them with something. Armor-All? (just kidding)

Finally....what is coconut cream and more importantly, where can I get it? Will it make my interior smell like a beach in Tahiti?

I’ve seen and used lots of things over the years , peanut butter , olive olive , vajayjay juice etc .
But lately I’ve been using a product from a Detailer supply house called detailing.com in lake forest . They have a website but the store is local so I drove there and asked .
I can’t be more help as I can’t remember where the bottle is

I used something similar to Forever Black for exterior trim on my daily driver, lasted years. You want something with a dye in it but, I never tried it on any interior pieces. Also I have seen decals that that cover the ignition switch that look pretty cool.

To maintain a good condition piece, I use 303 Aerospace protectant as it'll block UV light that damages the plastic. Once the plastic has turned white, I haven't had a lot of luck with permanentish results getting them black again.

I have seen lots of cars, even some examples in fantastic condition, and then been greeted by the white oxidized ignition lock bezel. They look nasty on an otherwise pristine interior.

Guys, the replacement bezel is like 20 bucks. Even if you but a brand new one on every five years or two years or every single spring, it's only $20!! It takes a couple minutes to R/R. I did mine about six or seven years back and it still looks new. Mind you, I have clear UV window film and use the 303, but still, they're not exactly gonna break the bank for a shiny new one...

I bought a new one 6ish years ago and it still looks great. I try to protect plastic with 303 but once it's faded I don't even bother trying to save it if it's possible to just get a new one cheaply.

Same story with the ugly engine compartment relay covers, great cosmetic improvement for under $20.

Ignition Plastic Ugliness

I agree with Canada Kev. Get a new ignition surround and use 303 every so often.

Another vote for using 303 protectant. I also use this product for exterior plastic/rubber pieces.

You can get coconut cream at any vitamin shop or health food store, maybe in the local supermarket in the vitamin section.
It's meant to be ingested orally. mmmmmm

Does 303 protectant also work for dashes? Does 303 use silicone as its 'magic trick?'

Our host sells new ones, as was mentioned, they are dirt cheap, and look fantastic and take a couple minutes to swap out.

303 is pretty amazing. I use it on all my cars now. Just bought some used Oakley glasses. Sprayed it on the frames, rubbed it in, glasses look almost new now.

I like 303 myself, but what's the problem with Armor-All?

I had the same issue with the ignition cover thingy.
Light coat of satin black spraypaint.
Looks like new, still does.
It's been eight years.

i tried a number of products before with little result.
Just a light coat of paint, perfect now.
