Where can I find a color version of the electrical diagrams?

I sometimes see parts of a color version of an electrical diagram for a 911. Is there a PDF (or large format print) somewhere for an 85 Carrera 3.2 ?

I am using the diagrams in the Bentley manual right now but they are not always as clear...

I ordered some from Prospero’s Garage via eBay. 11x17 and laminated. $22 for 10 pages. They come rolled in a tube but somehow manage to lie flat immediately. Recommended.

Just ordered a set. Thanks for the info.

OK, thanks ! I will contact them as they do not list the 1985 non-turbo on ebay (for int'l delivery).

They also have a website:

I ordered a set from them as well.

A few months later I noticed my trunk light, glove box light and dome lights would not work at all. According to the electrical diagram on the one from them, it went to (fuse 10 as I remember) but what ever fuse it was suppose to go to the diagram was flat out wrong. I had to call a friend with a real workshop manual. We saw right away the power source was the fuse with the little white plastic connector, I think (going from memory) it was fuse 3. We determined that white connector was faulty, and I fixed that. All the lights are working again.

I contacted Prospero’s Garage directly, and they refunded my money. I just cut up the diagrams, and trashed them. If that was wrong, what else might be wrong. I had spent an hour tracing the wrong wire that their diagram had led me to.

All of that happened this year, so it has not been a long time. I hope they get that error fixed for the 1985 Carrera diagram. I will order another one if it is correct.

Just be cautious before trusting the diagram.

This is a great caveat. In the process of chasing down a crazy cruise control gremlin, I ended up using a combination of the Bentley book, the Haynes book, the Prospero color diagrams, and the factory wiring diagram binder. They’re all different from each other in some way or the other. Even the factory manual was missing a connector behind the pedal cluster. You’re right that it’s very frustrating that you never know exactly which one is most correct until you start getting into it with a multimeter.

The 'factory manual' you are talking about, are that those >1000 EUR binders ?

I think I paid about $350 USD, but you’re right that sets of really pristine ones have been listed for >1000 EUR.

Maybe you have seen this thread. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1030754-help-blue-white-stripe-mystery-wire-behind-gauges-1988-911-a.html#post10473848 and Dennis' post.

This is why I don’t build wiring harnesses newer than ‘83. Porsche changed way too many standard wire color combinations and their destinations compared to everything they built before. Along with most of the plastic connectors that are NLA. Never mind the downsizing of the wire gauge to thinner cheaper wires. The factory B&W prints suck too....

Maybe in a few years when I retire from my day job and have time to R&D them, but until then I will continue to avoid them.

Even on my '71 lots of variations on the wiring from the factory.

timmy2 05-29-2019 07:44 AM

Yup, as Gordon said, lots of small errors on the factory diagrams. I’ve had to dismantle and note all changes for building replacement ones.
Ah the joys of assign the junior engineers and draftsmen to prints....

I had a PM about the little white connector that caused my trunk/interior/glove box issue.

I have a late model 1985 911, not the early model. There are mechanical differences, I do not know what electrical difference there are.

On my car, this little white connector, to the right of my red arrow, just pulls apart. It is easy to separate and kill the trunk light. It is connected to the 4th fuse back. On mine I have that same fuse powering some other item so I added a red wire that is unrelated to this issue. In the photo the black wire from the connector looks like it goes to the bottom of the 6th fuse, but that is just a camera illusion. It goes into behind the fuse block and into a harness to provide power to the lights.

If your lights don't work, check this connector.

Thankyou-ordered 87 and 88

I looked at the '68/'69 schematic. It must be only for the '68, because it doesn't look at all like the '69. Besides the '69 is supposed to be a one off design. I have an original, colored one and it's screwed up too.
