1968 911 Radio or no radio on this restoration?
Having my 68S restored. The COA does not show a radio. Does this mean it had a blank plate?
If it had a radio how do I know which one? If it didn't where to I find an OEM cover plate for it? Thanks guys as always

Per usual, take the COA with a grain of salt. A very, very small grain at that.
My car had a radio and an electric antenna (Hirschmann) from new. It never, ever stated it in the COA. The COA is a shot in the dark. If you are going all out on the resto I would put a working period radio in the car. But then you are putting speakers in too - so you have to have those. I would not cut anything to put speakers in though. I'd do it. I need my tunes - sometimes the engine is not enough. If it were an old German like my great-grandfather, he'd say no as they always thought a radio was a distraction to drivers. |

The first thing is to get a kardex the document the COA is suppose to be based upon. I do not believe any cars from that period came with radios from the factory as they were dealer installed, at best their may have been a radio prep kit installed i.e. antenna and speaker in the bash. Being a Euro model I'd say the dealer would have installed a Becker Europa or Grand Prix both being coded C. Radio delete plates are hard to come by and expensive probably about the same price as a radio. Finding a correct antenna also isn't easy but their are some reproductions that are close.

I think a lot is radios were dealer installed, even back in the 60s. I know most 914s came with no radios and Porsche sold a kit for dealer installation of various radios.

I drove it as my daily driver for 25 years. I still miss it, but I bought my 911 to fill the void before I sold the 914. With inflation that $1000 is $5,183.53, for an AC system. To the OP, my question is do you plan to ever listen to a radio while driving the car? If not leave it off, and save time and money. Put in a hidden Bluetooth sound system if you want music. Just my opinion.
