What is this?

I'm backdating my heating and while trying to fit the right hand side I found that this arrowed item is in the way . What is it and can it be easily removed and replaced?
It's not my engine apologies to whoever I borrowed the pic from!

oil sending unit. It just screws out but has a crush washer that should be replaced. Do not overtighten as it can be stripped faily easily.

can it be removed without draining the oil and is any 'bleeding' required on re-fitting just to clarify ...it is the oil pressure sensor?

Hey, Bones!
That motor looks darn familiar. I think I better go out to the garage and make sure it's still in the car!

But why do you need to remove the oil sender? I installed all the back-dated heat parts, without touching that thing.

Hey there Doug LOL.......I do love your engine . I'm heading in that general direction myself . Well just an hour ago a friend and I decided to backdate the heating so we removed the right hand SC black plate attached to the fan and startted to fit the the backdated plate with the plastic heater hose in situ . there wasn't enough room . So we dissasembled the tube and plate/fixing plate and tried to fit it in bits and tighten up . There wasn't enough room for the pipe to fit under the engine shroud it just seams a really tight fit so we decided to remove the oil temp sensor as that should give us room for manouvre and the application of a little muscle . But I don't think it should need it. Any pointers?

Exclamation

I would disconnect the oil line and remove the entire fitting that holds the oil pressure sender (that's the item your arrow is pointing to) from the engine case. The reaction through the engine case fitting from the torque required to loosen the oil pressure sender from the oil line fitting is sometimes high enough to damage the threads in the case where the fitting screws into the case - which is a very bad thing to have happen. If the oil pressure sender must be replaced it's much better to put the fitting in a bench vise to react the removal torque. There are some crush sealing washers that should be replaced if you unscrew the oil line and fittings from the case. Cheers, Jim
