Freeing brake line connections
Putting on new calipers from PMB and in process figured I should replace the flexible lines as I don't know if the ones on the car are original.
In trying to unscrew the connections on either end of the flex lines they don't budge and I'm afraid I'll strip them. Tried heat, penetrating oil etc. Using flared end wrenchs and still feels like they'll strip before they release... Any ideas?

I had the same issue when I installed my calipers from PMB, I replaced the flex lines and the steel tube lines on my 70 911. Problem solved and not running 50 year old lines. Peace of mind. For what its worth.

![]() ![]() Yes, Flare wrenches are a MUST, but even those are sometimes not enough and the old faithful "Vice-Grips" are the last resort. Of course, you must then replace w new, but when you do, no need to over tighten. The Flare design works well when just "snug" plus a little. It's the same w Fuel & Oil Lines. The flare design allows for just "snug" plus a little. Len ![]() Last edited by BoxsterGT; 07-04-2019 at 11:30 AM.. |

When I replaced my flex lines, I cut the rubber hose so a socket would fit over that fitting, then used a small battery power impact wrench with a tube wrench on the hard line fittings. Save the cut rubber end and plug with some metal bar stock, comes in handy if you want to take the calipers off again like when you do suspension work to seal the brake system.

These work really well … they're 7/16" thick … no flex when having to apply more force than a regular flare nut wrench can handle.
