I snapped Injection Pump Belt!

I just learned that my car is not running because the belt that runs the injection pump snapped! This would make sense.

I did a bunch of work and put it all back together. It ran fine for a few minutes and then died. Since then, it has not started. I backtracked all of my steps, checked all electrical connections, timing, etc.

Then I notice this belt hanging in the breeze not attached to anything.

How often should this belt be changed.

Hard to replace??

Anything else I should think about???

Thanks.

Two-hour job if you clean all of the sheet metal before buttoning things back up ...

Get a spare belt ... Autozone doesn't carry them!

Actually, they probably don't need to be replaced more than every 10 years or so, but anual inspection for cracks is a good idea. I replaced mine at 60,000 miles due to visible cracks.

Make sure that the timing marks are properly aligned on the belt. You may also have to prime the pump (cranking the engine for a bit) before it can start. See here for more details:

Do you realize this belt is a toothed timing type belt; the pulleys need to be correctly positioned when reinstalling the belt. Jim

I second this! If you're not sure things are lined up correctly, get help!
