Can you give me some price comparisons?

I'm trying to figure out what the pricing should be for some typical 911 labor.

For doing all this at the same time quote is:

$600 for removing old T bars and installing new torsion bars front and rear.

$180 for a 4 wheel alignment

$320 for a corner balance and ride height

$500 additional if the torsion bars need additional adjustment.

That make sense to you?

A local (NY) shop I know of charges $80/hour for labor.

Dont know where your located but the bill should be itemized to show charges for hours and parts seperately.

some of the things you have had done on your car are labor intensive. A proper alignment takes a bit, and corner balancing is a trial and error exercise, and can be time consuming.

the only thing I have a problem with is the $500 to "additionally adjust" the torsion bars

FWIW, I just called my local Porsche dealer about an alignment. Before taxes, shop fees etc, a 4 wheel alignment is $190, corner balance is an extra $190.

Does the $600 include the cost of new torsion bars? If your corner balance is SO far off. Perhaps they might have the wrong "index" on one of the torsion bars. Perhaps that's the problem with your ride height.

Ouch, I am really out of touch on these repair prices. I will continue to perform most of the work on my car! At these prices I would have to sell the car!

Prices are labor only at $80 an hour which I think is deserved. Parts are not included in any of the prices.

Three other local shops quoted labor only on the alignment, C/B and R/H the following:
225 alignment, 95 for corner balance and 65 for the ride height all done at the same time which equals $385.

$250, 150 and 100 from a second shop for $500 total.
$ 630 total at the third shop.

My concern is why the rebill if they have to adjust the TBs....shouldn't it be done right the first time? Or am I missing something?

History of my car -

Started out at 25.0"R 25.5" front, and had home brew suspension work done (read - DONE WRONG).
Car was reduced to 24.0"R / 24.5"F. No torsion bars or bushings. Was done at the shop mentioned in my earlier posts. According to my reciept, was charged:

$281.50 - "Re-index RR torsion bar set the vehicle ride height per clients request, set the corner balance for symetry. " Meaning, for $281.50 I had one (1) torsion bar reindexed, and the car lowered as far as I needed to go, and the vehicle adjusted for weight at 4 corners. The rest is before and after measurements / settings.

As the car sits, it's within 1/4" of spec at all 4 corners. It's like driving a go-kart, let go of the wheel at 80 mph tracks straight as an arrow. I'm very happy.

$185.60 - "Inspect the complete front and rear suspension assy's and front steering system, and performe a specialized alignment procedure for client @ 220LBS Primary driver - Aggressive street"

Now mind you, this is before any business of swapping torsion bars or bushings. But, (CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG) since the bars are coming out you would think that it would be reindexed at the proper height, no? Saving the extra labor to dissamble and reindex a 2nd time. It's like going to Mcdonalds and buying a Coke, then getting hit for the price of the cup.

Even if they price each job as a totally seperate procedure (which doesn't make sense in my mind) it still doesn't add up.

And still, it seems like crap and if you're 100% certain the tub is straight, looks like poor work.

I sure sounds like they double charged you on the TB labor.

It's like you bought an oil change and they want more to put it in the right hole.
