JB Weld removal with heat?

So I’ve patched my case defect in SITU about 6 times. Think it might still leak. With the engine out I’m wondering if using heat (propane) to remove the JB weld to try a fresh seal is wise?

Propane is a good idea. If using MAPP don't heat it for too long. I've melted aluminium with MAPP

We remove head studs with mapp. 2-3 minutes gets it hot but no where near melting or damaging the case. We use it on mag too.

Are you replacing also the upper cylinder head studs? What brand have you selected? Thanks.

Wire brush it down, carb cleaner and reapply JBWeld
Also opposite side under the oil cooler is matching potential leak.

Heavy duty paint strippers with methylene chloride remove JB Weld (as does acetone, but it takes a lot longer if the JB can't be submerged in it).

If you have the case half out, why wouldn't you get it professionally welded? JB weld is a half ass solution for something like that.

anyone use those aluminum brazing rods here instead of JB weld? Seems much more permanent of a repair.

It would be a tragedy to put the engine back together without taking the opportunity for a permanent fix. Have it professionally welded and never worry about it again.

Yes, it might look better than my seventh, ,attempt at JB weld. I’ll look around to see what I can find. I think I have the time to do this, certainly can afford it too.
