Engine Identification Pls

Car is a 76 which originally had mag case 2.7, but now has aluminium engine.. It has CIS so I assumed it was a 3.0, but the case looks like that of a 3.2 (ie, does not have sump plate)

There is no engine number, or type number in the normal place.. I believe it to be a reproduction case. The numbers have not been ground off; the casting is as new, and perfectly smooth.

There is a part number 930 101 104 6R and a new engine number has been stamped on the lower flange area. N940157 P.

I removed the right side heater duct cover to ascertain the height of the inlet port on the heads, and there are no phenolic spacers like a 3.2.

Any ideas what this motor is?

Mike, that number stamp is in area that Porsche would put a VIN sticker
86 or 87 the factory started putting VIN stickers on all major components, doors, hoods, bumpers, etc
On the 84/85, I don’t recall that flat there yet, but not going to crawl under my 85 to see

The last SCs had the case with no screen at the bottom. So probably an '83 SC?

No engine number by the fan?

Hi Trackrash.. thanks for chiming in. Yes, Bruce alerted me also to the late SC coming with the updated case. So it does seem it is definately a late SC.

There is definately no engine number for type number by the fan.. only the N number on the bottom of the engine. I am guessing this is a replacement case. As for where it originated from, who knows!

I'm just glad that it has a ALOOMINNEEUMM case as opposed to magnesium
