rear caliper rebuild question......dust boots

what's the trick to get the rear caliper piston dust boots to clip on?
the calipers were blasted and cleaned and there are no obstructions around where they should seat, the metal clips inside the boot are intact and not twisted, i just can't get them to seat in.
any tips would be greatly appreciated since i'm in the middle of this right now

I just finished mine last week. The lip of the dust boot should snap in place around the piston. After pressing the piston back into the cylinder, there should be a groove remaining around the outside where the snap ring will fit. Once on, I gently pressed the ring further in place using a small screwdriver, being careful not to let it slip and rip the boot.
